Defense’s dominate

Two scores in the first quarter were all that either team could muster in a tense affair at a wet Jeppesen Stadium on Sunday. Houston got off to a perfect start with a 36 yard Bobby Jancik kick off return followed by a 32 yard Groman reception on the first play of the drive. 2 plays later Billy Cannon was in the end zone after he broke through a dazed and confused Bills D line to score from 18 yards out. Buffalo managed to respond when Cookie Gilchrist found the end zone after impressive running from Wray Carlton. The extra point was missed which in the end proved the undoing of the Bills. The remainder of the match was scoreless as neither side could find a way through. Houston had by far more possession and opportunities but again the kicking of Blanda let them down and despite passing for nearly 300 yards and a career high 25 pass completion rate, he came up short when it mattered. Bill Groman’s first outing as a starter this season was one to remember as he recorded over 100 receiving yards on his return to frontline duty
